Horror Movie Challenge: Day 10
A Horror Movie Everyone Loves But You Don't
Wow, this is a tough question. Horror movies like anything else are really subjective but horror movies have such extremely loyal fans. I have a lot of answers for this questions and I know a lot of people are going to disagree with my answers.
The Exorcist
Highly placed on most lists and a
film some people even today refuse to watch, The Exorcist is one of
the most hyped horror movies of all time. I watched it for the first
time when I was 15 and on a horror movie kick where I went through
the entire horror movie section at a local Move Gallery (RIP). Maybe
because I was expecting too much but the film definitely
underwhelmed. I thought it was interesting and unique compared to the
slashers that usually dominated the horror genre but I didn't really
like it. I didn't find it scary or suspenseful and after one viewing
I have never felt the desire to watch it again. I have seen many
other exorcism films since and I've liked a few but it's definitely
not a sub-genre that I'm into.
Halloween
Halloween is another classic horror
films that millions of peole love and in many cases spawned their
addiction to horror films. Sadly, I do no count myself among them. I
watched Halloween as a child and then again as a teen and although I
like the film I don't love it. In all honesty I much prefer the
sequel and I don't care for any of the sequels. Michael as a
character doesn't really do anything for me, he seems similar to
Jason but his motivations aren't as clear. I hated the Rob Zombie
remake but the first part that delves into Michael's childhood was
fantastic and I would have loved to see more of that story.

Horror Movie Challenge: Day 9
Favorite Supernatural Horror Movie
This is such a hard question because most horror movies are supernatural in some way. To make this a bit easier I will choose from ghost films since that's the type of movie I instantly thought of.
Insidious
This is a newer film but it has definitely become a favorite. This movie actually scared me and horror movies so rarely do that anymore.

2013 K-Drama Challenge: Drama Edition-3rd Genre
Fantasy
49 Days
49 Days is one of the most unique Korean dramas that I've ever watched. The story is fascinating and this would definitely have made it's way into my top 5 if it wasn't for the ending. I've been watching Asian dramas for almost a year now and although I have loved quite a few of them I can't say as much for the way a majority of them end.
Shin Ji Hyun (Nam Gyu Ri) is leading a perfect life-She's rich, has a wonderful family, great friends, a handsome fiance and is loved by everyone. Her fantasy-like existence is shattered when she spots her best friend and fiance together and gets into a car accident. While in a coma, a Scheduler (Jung Il Woo) comes to her and gives her a chance to get her life back- she must collect 3 teardrops from 3 people who genuinely love her and are not family in 49 days. Ji Hyun readily accepts this option and believes she can easily get the teardrops she needs in a lot less time. Since she is a spirit while her physical body is in a coma she is allowed to use the body of Song Yi Kyung (Lee Yo Won) while she is sleeping. Yi Kyung is a depressed and suicidal woman with a tragic past that has long since given up on life. Ji Hyun soon discovers that getting the teardrops is a much more difficult task than she originally thought and as she uncovers more secrets from her family and friends she beings to wonder if her perfect life really ever existed at all.
Aside from the great story line, the characters in this drama were amazing. I especially loved Yi Kung and the Scheduler. Yi Kyung is character that I don't see in a main role very often and I really liked the exploration of her imperfections and her past. Jung Il Woo as the Scheduler was great and one of the main reasons you should watch this drama. Jung Il Woo is a great actor and his character is so unique and multi-faceted. I liked Gyu Ri as Ji Hyun but her performance was the weakest in the entire cast and it was even more noticeable when compared to some of the stronger actors such as Lee Yo Won. I wanted to absolutely love this drama but as is the fate of a lot of kdramas the ending lest something to be desired. I don't want to spoil anything but the finale was completely unsatisfying. It really felt rushed and out of sync with the rest of plot-I'm still confused as to why they chose to end it that way. Aside from the ending I really loved the drama so I will continue to recommend it but with a warning.

2013 K-Drama Challenge: The Genre Edition-2nd Genre

Drama: The Snow Queen
I
am currently on a quest to watch all the movies and dramas that Hyun
Bin has starred in because he's my favorite Korean actor (I'm also
probably a bit obsessed). The Snow Queen was an earlier drama
that Binnie starred in a few years before the amazing Secret Garden
so it doesn't get mentioned as much.
Han
Tae Woong (Hyun Bin) is a mathematical genius attending
a prestigious high school where he meets Kim Jeong
Kyu-a child prodigy who quickly becomes jealous of Tae Woong's
skills. The two eventually reconcile and become inseparable friends.
Duting this time Tae Woong saves a young girl from bullying and
spends the day with her. They part ways but promise to meet again.
All is going well until Jeong Kyu comes in second place to Tae Wong
during an international math competition-the friends argue and all
the pressure comes crashing down on Jeong Kyu resulting in him
committing suicide. Tae Woong feels responsible and the guilt causes
him to drops out of school, leave home and change his name. Eight
years later Tae Woong (now Han Deuk Gu) is living and working at a
gym and is a boxer. He keeps running into a mysterious woman (Kim Bo
Ra) who is extremely cold and bitter and eventually saves
her from committing suicide-the woman turns out to be the girl
he knew from years before.
The
Snow Queen was a really good drama and it definitely deserves more
praise than it currently receives. The performances were all great
but Hyun Bin was amazing as the tortured Tae Woong-the drama would
not have been the same without him in it. Although I liked Sung Yu Ri
as Kim Bo Ra, her acting was the weakest point in the drama. I liked
the story and the characters but the drama suffered from of the
common cliches that were and still are popular. The frustrating use
of noble idiocy from Bo Ra and Tae Woong multiple times was almost
too much to bear-so many problems and issues could have been solved
or completely avoided if they would just tell each other the truth.
Beside those few flaws this drama was great. It's a must watch for
fans of Binnie as it features one of his best performances.

Genre: Comedy
Drama: Mary Stayed Out All Night
Marry Stayed Out All Night/ Marry Me Mary is a very divisive drama such as Boys Over Flowers and Lie to Me-people really like it or they really hate it. I fall somewhere in the middle because while I readily admit that it has some problems I still found myself liking it.
